Opioid Epidemic – over prescribing by physicians
Since 2010 – 3600 people have overdosed and died from opioids in Arizona
In 2015 – 701 died nearly 2 a day Arizona was the 3rd highest state for oxycodone use per ca-pita.
90% of kids who misused drugs get them from friends or family
4 out of 5 heroin users started out misusing RX drugs.
Governor Ducey has proposed limiting the initial narcotic prescription to 7 days. Arizona State Board of Pharmacy matins a data base of doctors, patients, and prescriptions, available to all prescribing doctors to evaluate patients previous opioid history.
In 2016 the Governor signed Bill HB-2355 allowing the over the counter sale of Naloxone. The lifesaving overdose-reversal drug Naloxone is critical part of our national strategy to stop the prescription drug and heron overdose epidemic.
It is our position that those parents who have concerns about their children's, friends or family members opioid addiction have this life saving drug on hand.
